| I wonder why Jacob and MM are on the island. It appears both speak many languages and are very intelligent. They could probably live anywhere they desired, yet they stay on the island. Do they desire solitude? Are they their by choice? | |

| Perhaps, Jacob is the physical experience of the island and MM is the spiritual or non-physical experience of the island.
Jacob is out to prove that physical beings can in fact be good.
MM is skeptical and sees Jacob's repeated attempts to bring living proof to the island as a threat to island itself.
Jacob is weary of immortality and jealous of the transitive nature of human existence much like a Greek god would be.
MM has no sense of the physical world. He can only manipulate physical beings through visions and dreams. He can appear to be a corporal being on the island, but in reality he can do nothing but suggest action by others. What we in this reality would attribute to God or Yahweh or whatever.
Everytime a group is brought to the island by Jacob, he battles it out with MM to see who survives and they become "Others"? The Others are content to live in the island reality. When new travelers are brought in it upsets the Others, but they recognize it as a battle between Jacob and some other force. Jacob is the devil or whatever and he can walk among the living and do his work. The twist in Lost is that he does so to prove God wrong about the the failed nature of the physical world as shown through human existence. The Judeo/Christian mythos has the devil roaming earth to corrupt the world (see the Book of Job - King James).
They can actually physically communicate with Jacob through Richard, but they need another "leader" to communicate with the island's metaphysical side or MM. Richard can't communicate with that entity or reality on the island. The "Others" continually upgrade their technology after each battle.
After Dharma they can actually live outside of Smokie's reach. They can also manipulate a great deal of the physical reality on the island. They can actually control when Smokie can and cannot appear. They cannot control Smokie, but they can contain it.
They continue to exist in order to help test the next set of travelers who will face the ultimate game of survivor. Will they prove to be valiant? Will they survive to become Others? Or, will they prove to be the end game?
MM saw that Locke was actually a potentially "good" and "true" person who could prove Jacob right when Smokie scanned him. He knew that Jacob would recognize this as well, but Jacob would have to discover this by watching the actions of Locke as reported to him through Richard.
Jacob is at a disadvantage, but any decent chess player knows that understanding your disadvantage is the only way to capitalize on it.
In my new line of thinking, MM would appear to be the one who wants to protect the island while Jacob is the one willing to sacrifice the island for the sake of proving a point.
The island exists only in a physical form if Jacob exists. MM cannot be killed by Jacob, because MM is metaphysical. MM is perhaps willing to bet that the metaphysical can exist without the physical world.
The other side of the coin is: Everyone who stays on the island in this new post "incident", perhaps purified reality, can only be there if they make the ultimate sacrifice.....which means giving your life up for the island with no thought of the consequences to yourself or others.
This list would include: Jacob (He was sure to include himself!), Locke (What of MM?), the Oceanics with Miles, Sawyer, Juliet, and Daniel? Of course, the king of sacrifice - Charlie who gave up the potential to "shag" Claire, so he could save her!
Wild cards =
Ben, of course, did he make the sacrifice necessary by giving the island the choice of killing him or redeeming him. He was fooled by MM, but still he did choose to sacrifice himself. I think he is going to stay, but he is now a very weak and pathetic creature.
Walt? The old couple who have decided to just "be"? Widmore? Desmond?
If the physical beings who remain in the final season can prove to MM that they will not harm the island, will he will stop his war with Jacob?
It will involve one more ultimate sacrifice which will somehow leave Adam and Eve in one time/space continuum on the island. The other space/time continuum will have its own resolution.
As usual, I am lost and loving it!
Please don't kick me off - I will never write such a long theory again.

the good guys will win [ whoever they are ] This summarizes lost in 2 sentences I think. Lost is still the greatest tale in history and needs much more than this though

This summarizes lost in 2 sentences I think. Lost is still the greatest tale in history and needs much more than this though thanks ... I guess my abstract is rather short. to expand a bit : Since the Days of the Ancients, Jacob watched intently the repeating cycles of human group behavior on the Island and each time his hopes were dashed like the Black Rock in the jungle. but he knew without any doubt that eventually a group would come together in that mysterious place and prove his theory correct : that it is possible for a small group of apparent strangers to get together and find common ground against all odds and even overcome the very nature of Space-Time to do the right thing at the right time ...

| I still believe that Jacob & MM were given an assignment by higher entities to prove or disprove that humankind can survive despite all they lack. I believe that when Jacob is dying and he says "they're coming" it's these entities who are coming to see what they have accomplished and that's why MM seems almost terrified. I think that the story is even bigger than Jacob and MM. | |

| It's too bad we never know who is really pulling strings, in reality and lostality. It seems like God answers to freewill in the lost universe. | |
