I agree that it's a battle white vs black but not good vs evil. I think it's a battle of free will vs surprisin.

agreed. good vs evil is the key here. everyone fights for what they believe is good and in the best intrests of island.

Rogersbeer - would you entertain the idea of belief/faith vs not? Jacob has faith/belief that people can live without being self destructive, his oponent does not, "they come, they fight, they coorupt, it always ends that way". I think the island is a venue that is "hidden" so well for the reason of isolating the playing field.

Faith/belief runs through many episodes. The seemingly prophetic words in the final S5 episode from Rose and Bernard seem to indicate the best end result, but the faith/belief to get there is the challenge.
